1. Is cosmetic dental filling (bonding) painful?
Absolutely painless. For shallow cavities or minor chipping, you will feel virtually nothing. For cases that require more extensive removal of decayed tooth structure, the dentist will administer local anesthesia to ensure you are completely comfortable throughout the entire procedure.
2. How long does a cosmetic dental filling procedure take?
Very quick. The procedure for filling one tooth usually takes only 20-45 minutes, depending on the complexity and location of the restoration. You can achieve a new, more confident smile after just a single appointment.
3. How long does a Composite filling last?
The average lifespan of a Composite filling is typically 5 to 7 years. However, its durability depends heavily on your daily oral hygiene and dietary habits. With diligent care and regular dental check-ups for polishing, the filling can remain strong and aesthetically pleasing for even longer.
4. Can a filled tooth get decay again?
Yes, but not the composite material itself. The composite filling material cannot get cavities. However, the surrounding natural tooth structure, particularly around the margin of the filling, can still decay if oral hygiene is poor. Plaque can accumulate at the junction between the tooth and the filling, allowing bacteria to attack and cause recurrent decay. Therefore, proper brushing and flossing techniques are extremely important.
5. Can dental fillings be whitened (bleached)?
No, they cannot. Teeth whitening agents only work on natural tooth enamel and do not change the color of the composite material. Therefore, if you plan to whiten your teeth, you should do so before getting an aesthetic filling. After achieving your desired tooth color, the dentist will select the most suitable composite shade to harmonize the filling with the rest of your smile.
